Milestones welcomes referrals of woman aged between 18– 65 years who are detained under the Mental Health Act and are from child and adolescent, adult or forensic services.


We specialise in treating woman with complex, challenging and severe mental illness who are detained under the Mental Health Act  who have failed to flourish in mainstream mental health or forensic services.

Referral Criteria 

Milestones provides a free comprehensive assessment, which includes treatment recommendations and consideration of suitability for Milestones.


Milestones is small and familial; and all new patients are considered for admission both from their own individualised needs and treatments but also taking into consideration the dynamics and needs of other service users currently residing at Milestones.


We also treat women who require a step up from open wards or step down from other secure environments. We consider all women who have the following individual or dual diagnosis:


  • Schizophrenia

  • Bipolar affective disorder

  • Personality disorder

  • Schizo-affective disorder

  • Depression

  • Autism

  • ASD

  • Dual Diagnosis

  • Mild to moderate learning difficulties where the primary need is mental health

Referral Process

  • Initial referrals can be made online click here or via telephone on 01603 782200 (option 1) where you will be directed to a senior clinician

  • Milestones will send an assessment team to review the patient in their current setting.

  • Following assessment a full report will be submitted to the referring agency by protected email and/or post depending on your requirements

  • We welcome telephone enquires or visits by appointment to meet the team, view Milestones facilities and answer any queries you may have.
